SPECTRA Launches the First Four-Tier Maturity Model for the MSP Channel
Three certification levels and an entry approval tier, backed by top- rated Lloyd's of London insurance capacity, unlock premium discounts of 5 to 35 percent, and put certified MSPs on the referral map and in a customer referral pipeline from insurance brokers
SAN FRANCISCO, March 25, 2026 - Cyber insurers price small and midsize businesses (SMB) on industry averages. The underwriter looks at what companies in that sector typically pay and charges accordingly. Whether the SMB's managed service provider has a 24/7 SOC watching their endpoints or not.
SPECTRA's Business Advantage Program, announced today at RSA Conference, is built on a different premise: pricing should follow verified security posture. An MSP that deploys MDR with round-the-clock monitoring, tests backups quarterly, and enforces phish-resistant MFA for every account should not be pooled with one that doesn't.
The Business Advantage Program runs across four tiers. The entry tier, Business Advantage Approved, takes about 20 minutes to complete and immediately unlocks a 5 percent premium discount for the MSP's customers. From there, three certification levels build progressively. Level 1 validates internal security posture and 24/7 MDR coverage, the minimum threshold to receive insurance partner referrals. Level 2 adds email security and isolated backups,. Level 3 adds disaster recovery and advanced network security, unlocking a 35 percent customer premium discount and priority warm-lead referrals from brokers.
None of it is self-reported. Certification is reviewed and issued by SPECTRA's delivery team against published technical standards. The carriers recognizing SPECTRA certification include Lloyd's of London syndicates and highly rated US carriers, each of which has agreed to price certified MSPs and their customers differently. RT Specialty distributes the program through its wholesale broker network, giving certified MSPs access to insurance benefits through retail brokers across the country.
The tier structure is grounded in both claims data and managed security leading frameworks, not compliance convention. According to the Coalition 2025 Cyber Claims Report, business email compromise and funds transfer fraud together drive 60 percent of all cyber insurance claims. Ransomware accounts for another 21 percent and remains the most costly and disruptive event type, with business interruption consistently ranking as one of its largest cost components alongside
forensic investigation and data recovery. Each certification level requires controls that address those categories directly and efficiently.
"Better insurance should be unlocked by better security," said Eric Altamura, COO of SPECTRA. "We built the validation layer that proves an MSP does what it promises."
SPECTRA is exhibiting at RSA Conference 2026 at booth ESE-33 in the Early Stage Expo. Altamura's session, "SPECTRA Enables Exposure-Based Cyber Insurance Pricing for the MSP Channel," takes place March 25th at 12:30 PM in the Early Stage Expo stage.
